Graffiti wall using word??

Does anyone know if it's possible, by using just good old Word (I really don't want to download anything/learn how to use a new program) to insert a wall brick pattern, but then be able to write my own graffiti comments all over it?

Yes pretty easy. How to add a background - I'm almost certain there will be a brick wall like texture in the options here.

Then use Word Art to add the comments - it will look best if you've got a graffiti like font but if not, anything which is bold and cartoony or hand written will give you the general idea.

Use shape fill/shape outline/shape effects to mess around with different effects and use the text shape tool to make them go at different angles etc.

As per my last paragraph - read the Word art link if that's gobbledygook right now. It will make more sense when the wordart box is open. I suggest making the outline fairly thick.

If you want to download some graffiti like fonts, look at www.dafont.com for loads of free ones, they have some amazing stuff.

I inserted Clipart of a brick wall for the background.
Then used Wordart to add the graffiti - you will need to format the Wordart (under the layout tab) so that it sits in front of the text (or wall).

Thanks MrsCakes - just gave that a quick try but my brick wall on Clipart isn't very good, and also it needs to cover a whole A4 page so I have to stretch it - which makes the brick squares an odd shape.

Ok, I just pasted in several copies so they filled the page, would that work?

You can change a page to landscape in Page Setup if it works better. You could also download an image of a brick wall from google images if you want one which is a different shape. Never stretch images - it really irrationally bothers us arty folk! If you want to stretch an image in word, hold down shift and use one of the corner grabby things rather than the side or top or bottom - it keeps it the right ratio (though if you stretch it too big it will still look horrible and pixelated).

Tried to add a background by following BertieBotts' instruction but the background choices don't have anything resembling a brick wall. Bubbles, marble and even bloody canvas but no brick wall!

That's a shame about the background textures, but glad you've found something that works now!

Oh although you could look on the "patterns" tab if you're not sorted with the clipart. And under "textures" there might be something where you can import an image.

I am irrationally pleased with this brick wall, just what I wanted. Thank you so much And I didn't even have to stretch.
