I think it depends how old it is. My iPhone 5 had a fault within the first couple of weeks and they replaced it.

StrumpersPlunkett · 25/02/2015 20:46

the fault is from 2012/2013 batch phone switches off at random when the battery is full. having been frustrated by it dh googled and found the known fault and the place to type in serial number of phone.

If it is something like that I would think that they would probably replace it. I can't imagine that it's easily fixable.

cdtaylornats · 25/02/2015 21:24

It might just require a firmware fix but costwise straight replacement might well be easier.

StrumpersPlunkett · 25/02/2015 22:25

thanks all, I guess it is a better option than me throwing it out the window (the current thought each time it turns off!!)

I had that. I took it to Apple and they replaced it without any fuss. I'm fairly sure it's probably a reconditioned one but I can't tell any difference.

They did tell me to back everything up and restore to factory settings before I went though.

If you are anywhere near an Apple, I would make an appointment and go in. There were at least another two people in at the same time as me with the recalled battery issue.

StrumpersPlunkett · 25/02/2015 22:54

thanks for that Hairy, how long had you had the phone before yout ook it in?

as an aside, will I lose all my text messages?

Strumpers I had to read this thread twice in case I'd posted it without realising it. I have exactly the same issue and my dh googled (he was actually googling to find instructions on how he could replace the bttery) and found the recall!

I called Apple last Friday, they sent me a box out which arrived on Monday via UPS. I backed up and wiped my phone and UPS collected it a couple of hours later (paid for by Apple). Apparently it should take about a week to replace - I've put my sim in another phone and diverted the calls. I'm pretty sure they're just replacing the battery as it says in the instructions they won't do it if you have a cracked screen.

StrumpersPlunkett · 25/02/2015 23:09

There is a scratch on the screen but no crack. Will be interesting to see what you get back! I am going to call my closest Apple store tomorrow and make an appointment the website says before March 1st so am going to get my skates on!

Good luck! Just remembered it is definitely a replacement battery only as I started out by making an appointment at the Apple store, but changed my mind as it is a pain to get into London atm. however it said in the instructions that if you make an appointment online you need to call to check if there is a member of the battery replacement team on that day

StrumpersPlunkett · 26/02/2015 10:15

Well have managed to get an appointment tomorrow morning so will let you know what happens. Eeeeek

yes please do! My status is service in progress, so hopefully they'll send it back tomorrow

HairyPotter · 26/02/2015 19:52

I had my phone for 18 months when I took it back. I don't think I lost anything at all, even txts. They just swapped the sim over to the new one and backed up from the cloud. Took about 20 mins.

Good lunk for tomorrow. Grin

StrumpersPlunkett · 26/02/2015 22:34

Thanks will report backl

Hi ladies. I have a new phone battery and am sooooooo happy. The phone hasn't turned itself off since.
A new phone would have been exciting but tbh I am delighted this one is fixed.
