Speak to me like I'm an idiot: Minecraft and Hudls

We bought our three boys Hudls for Xmas. We have realised that we can stem the tide of Minecraft any longer.

Do I buy Minecraft for each Hudl, or can we buy one login and use it on all three Hudls? I don't really understand how it works (luddite) but I know that they would like to play individually and against each other (and their friends too).

Please could someone help me - I clearly have no idea what I'm doing!

Hi,

I'm no expert but I would guess if you want the full version you would have to buy a game each. You can get the Minecraft pocket edition on the Play Store for about £5. If you bought one each of that type it would be less than the price of one full version.

The pocket edition doesn't have ALL the features of the full game but ok for getting used to it and seeing if they will actually play it. There are videos on YouTube which shows you how to make a local server. Not sure about playing with mates though.

Be prepared for full-on Minecraft addiction. My Son eats, sleeps and breathes Minecraft ever since his cousins introduced him to it during the summer hols. It is quite educational though in a problem-solving sort of way so I don't mind too much. Just watch out for adult content on some of the Minecraft themed YouTube videos - they are easily found by kids by clicking off the more kid-friendly people like StampyLongHead.

Good luck setting up the server...you will have loads of peace once they're all glued to it (if they aren't trashing each others creations that is!)

By the way, not 100% sure you can actually buy the full version for a Hudl but I may be wrong...

Thanks Pary - I'm prepped for the Minecraft obsession thanks to tales from other school mums!

It sounds like the pocket edition might be best to start off with - as you say, they might not end up playing that often (hollow laugh)!!

I bought Minecraft pocket edition for my phone through Google Play and when I set up Ds2's Hudl, I used my account and he got Minecraft 'free' IYSWIM.

However, he also has my calendar notices Hmm so be aware if you are going to do the same thing.

Thanks Dame - I've already somehow given them all my music and some other stuff, so I'm not sure calendar notices will make a huge difference! Grin

I'm not going to have it anywhere near my phone either - that way they can't steal it when we're out and about or they haven't charged their hudls!
