I have set up dd's new ipod touch with my apple id, great except dd2 wants an ipod touch for xmas and I am hoping to get an iphone at some point, how am I going to set everyone up with seperate ids for messaging and facetime etc? I have confused myself so much.

We've got about 8 devices running off one account, I had to set up email addresses for the DCs to use Imessage on their Ipods (haven't done Facetime), DH and I use Imessage via our phone numbers. I haven't set up email on the DCs Ipods, just IMessage. It took me about an hour to get all 4 of us sorted out with Imessage, our numbers/email addresses etc in each others contact lists. The Itunes password is a very closely guarded secret and all gadgets are set to needing it for every single transaction.

so I can set them all up on the same itunes account? then each needs an email address for messaging? Is it obvious how to do this? dd1s is obviously set up to my email, dd2s can be set to dh's so we can closely watch it. Sorry to sound thick but it confuses me so much. My apple id is the email address but can I set another email as messaging in it?

www.apple.com/uk/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/ much better way of doing it than sharing an Apple ID

That does sound good, ours does work really well for us at the moment but will definitely look into the family sharing at some point when the DCs want a bit more independence. I can't move to IOS8 yet because an app I use a lot isn't working on it yet. Also I haven't really got to grips with ICloud and am a bit wary of it.

Dita - it is all in the various settings and isn't too hard to set up, but I think if I was starting out now I'd do it by the thing in the link.

that sounds perfect thanks :)

We all have our own Apple IDs so that we can add vouchers to different accounts etc. Only I have the passwords though.
