Backing up photos

Hi all, I have about 12 years worth of digital photos. In the early days I saved them to CD, later on I bought an external hard drive and saved them there. I use picasa on the PC to look at and organise them. Every now and then I back up to the external hard drive - the trouble is that it is getting full! I have BT Cloud but the upload seems to take forever. What do you reckon, can I back up the back up? Or do I just buy a new external drive and start again? I would hate to lose all my childrens photos. Thanks.

Another drive sounds like a good idea if you're used to doing it that way. We were rubbish at plugging in a drive so switched to online storage. We pay £1.99 a month for upto 100gb of space on ones rice and out phones back up their photos to it automatically.
