Downloading same music on 2 iPods?

I am extremely un-techy so hope someone can help me with this!

Dds 1 and 2 both have an i-touch each. They buy music straight from the device, it's my apple account and they just pay me back each time.

Dd2 says she can't download the same music as dd1 on her iPod. Is there an (easy!) way round this?

If they both back their iPods to the same computer with iTunes, then all the music can be on the one computer. Then create separate playlists for each child with their music on it and then just sync that playlist onto their iPod.

Hopefully that should work.

If they are registered to the same iTunes account, I thought you just downloaded them to the other device. I've also done it via iTunes on the laptop and then synced the iPod.

We are all linked to the same iTunes account but have different playlists that synch to our devices.

Right, it's already getting too techy for me, I think I got lost on the first line of beachy's post lol! Smile

We have iTunes on the main family computer (iMac) but they don't use it. They just buy their music straight from the device.

I'm wary of connecting an iPod to the computer because the last time we tried this ages ago, it automatically put ALL the music on dd's iPod and she had all dh's stuff which she didn't want!

I can't check as all my music seems to have downloaded itself to my ipad without me noticing, but if you go to Settings --> Music, there is an option to show all music including that stored in the Cloud. I don't know if this would show music purchased on other devices.

OwlCapone · 11/06/2014 09:21

And yes, I've had the issue where everything downloads itself :) you need to uncheck the box to automatically do this, or I think it's actually checking a box to manually manage music.

Note to self: put all your comments in one post.

If you click to buy the music again, it might tell you that you've already bought it and ask whether you want to download it to this device. I'm not sure though - apps used to work like this.

If you connect the devices to iTunes and sort the music into playlists you should be able to select only what you want to download to each device. I know DH and I used to do that.

Dancergirl · 11/06/2014 10:05

I have just checked on iTunes and the dds' music isn't there.

I think you need to transfer the purchases from the iPod. It's one of the options when you plug in an iPod to synch it. Which puts you in the position of possibly accidentally downloading everything to the iPod and having to sort it out.

I don't know if there's an option to sort this on the iPod. There must be a setting because things I've bought on my iPhone are on my ipad and neither have been connected to the laptop.

Under settings on the iPod, is there an option called iTunes wifi synch?
This may still have the problem of downloading everything though as my Ipad has happily downloaded everything.

Or look at Settings > iTunes and App Store > show all music.

Gah!

There is also an option to automatically download music but this will download everything everybody buys on your account.
