How to check amount of RAM?

Bought a new laptop, paid extra to have an extra 4 Gb RAM fitted. System properties says 4Gb, when I was expecting to see 8Gb. Supplier maintains it was fitted (bought over the internet). Is there another way to check if it's been fitted, ie some thing else to check other than system properties?

Check you've got a 64bit operating system any computer wont recognise the extra RAM if you're running a 32bit operating system. (Although it should show how much unused RAM you have on your system).

Download the free version of speccy from pinform (You can trust this) to check all you need to know about your system.

Here's a screenshot of my specs as an example of what you should see.

Yes, 64-bit. So basically there's nothing obvious that I'm missing?

Getting annoyed that the company are not very responsive. They are 'looking into it'. I have already suggested they just send me a new one with 8Gb and take away the one with 4Gb but they haven't admitted they made a mistake yet. Grrr.

Start
->Control Panel
->System and Security
->System
->View amount of Ram Processor speed

will also tell you in windows 7.

Have you got Windows xp, 7 or 8?

If it was a limit with windows e.g 32bit it still tell you 8GB, but only 3.xGB is 'usable'. So I can't think of any other reason than memory not being there or not fitted correctly. Hassle them some more!

Have they put stickers over the hatch on the laptop where the RAM is?, you could unscrew it and have a look - it could be that they put it in but not pushed it in correctly/damaged it or the obvious one that its not there!

Thanks all. I sent it back.
