From an iPhone 4s to an iPhone 5s. The Geek Squad in the Carphone Warehouse transferred my contacts etc for me yesterday afternoon, and I was told that in the following 24 hours, the new phone would start working with my usual phone number.

Have I misunderstood?

At the moment, both phones are connected to wifi and I can use the Internet, but the new phone says 'No Service', and if someone calls me, it is still the old phone that rings. The 24 hours are well up.

What am I missing, oh wise techy ones? Thanks.

Have you got a new SIM card then? If so, why? Are you on a new network? If you aren't they should have just swapped your SIM over, no?

Have you plugged it into iTunes to set it all up?

No

No to new SIM card and no to itunes? Come on, plug it in - or are you waiting for divine intervention? Smile

Does it have a new SIM card then? They can take longer to switch over.

Pop back to the shop of it's not working tomorrow.

I was told 48 hours when I did mine, can't remember exactly how long it took, but I think it was a bit longer than a day before it transferred. It will be a new actual card because the slot is a different size.

If it's a new Sim card then you may have to activate it. Regardless of whether it is the same network or not. You can usually do this through the network's website or by phoning customer service. There's no reason why the Sim activation shouldn't be instant.

Have you turned the new phone off. Then on again? Sometimes that helps??

Fumingnora · 30/04/2014 18:25

Mine took from the Friday to Tuesday. What network are you on? I was told 24 hours and was really annoyed as it took bloody ages.

I was also told that in carphone warehouse and I assumed (wrongly) that it would automatically work in 24 hours. In fact I had to ring my provider (O2) who had to do something their end and it then worked within the hour.
