I put Microsoft works on my last laptop when the free trial for Microsoft office ended. We don't use the laptop for business but our kids (ages 6 & 7) want to use it for homework/drawing. Also the school sometimes send out word docs instead of pdf for the parentmail. Libreoffice is recommended by moneysavingexpert and Open Office comes up when I search for free alternatives. Any reviews?advice welcome!

I have LibreOffice and think it's easily as good as MS Office. Also, you can save it so it opens with MS products.

Thanks DoctorTwo, sounds like it'll do for me. I'll download it tomorrow. Cheers.

I recently downloaded Libreoffice for a play and wasn't impressed at all by it. There's still compatibility issues and some of my word documents did not convert properly at all. The formatting was noticably out.

I'd recommend Kingsoft Office. It's so close to Microsoft Office that I've no idea why Microsoft haven't sued them into oblivion yet. It's also free for personal use.

Definitely not LibreOffice. My daughter's school project was much harder than it should have been because of a couple of nasty graphics bugs. OpenOffice does not seem to have the same bugs so I am using that now.
