Can someone guide me through the process of moving from Wii to Wii U console?

We've had our Wii since 2007 I think and it is used primarily by the children to play Skylanders Giants. The controllers are increasingly temperamental and DH is talking about replacing it with a Wii U.

What do we need to buy? Does it come with a basic items but we need to add controllers, nun-chucks etc?

I am also worried that we will have individuals just looking at their own small screen rather than us as a group looking at the TV together (the DCs have no other hand-held devices for this reason really).

Also, will their Wii Skylanders CD work on Wii U?

TIA

You can use most games and accessories that you use on the Wii on the Wii U as it is backwards compatible.

I don't know for sure that Skylanders will specifically work though.

If you buy from Game in the box there is the Wii U console and a Wii U gamepad. So no controllers or nunchucks. You can only have 2 game pads connected to the Wii U at the same time but 4 controllers.

Maybe popping into a game shop and discussing it would be beneficial for you? You can trade in your old Wii too. I just did mine though and only got £10 Shock

Hi wii games can be played on the wii u so skylanders will work, however original wii games don't work with the gamepad, you still have to use wii remotes which don't come with the wii u.

There are currently no wii u games that accept 2 wii u gamepads so 1 will be all you need.

Lots of wii u games aimed at children/families use the gamepad to help the players with wii remotes so you don't get 1 person absorbed it their own screen while they play.

Your wii games and controllers will work with the wii u and if you keep your wii you can transfer all your data to wii u
