How to listen to my cds

My ancient old hifi system has long since been ruined by small children posting sandwiches into the drive, and now I can only listen to cds in my car.

I'd really like to be able to listen to them in my living room, and I'd like a system that will:

a. produce high quality sound
b. look cool

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Well, what I've had for a few years is pretty good - but then you probably don't want to spend £4K.

So Denon is a system our DS has had for over ten years. This is a recent incarnation, but check around on-line for best deals. Also, if you see something you like, don't be afraid to haggle. Richer Sounds are good dealers if you have one near you.

Thanks Ferguson.

I didn't realise Denon were still around. My current amp is Denon - circa 1985. It still works, it's just the cd unit that is buggered. I thought people had moved on to slinky little ipad docking stations, which look a lot nicer than my system, and I rather fancied something of that ilk (although I don't have or want an ipad).

Maybe I should look for an old style cd unit to fit into my existing system. It might look a bit dated, but the sound is brilliant.

Yes, but company structure changed.

Lots of people do go more for 'trendy' stuff, but especially if on-line sound is compressed a lot of the quality is lost. Sound quality is less important than looks for many people! Check Richer Sounds, store or on-line, as they give good advice and prices.
