Techno illiterate here. Have bought an xbox 360 with kinnect for dds. All I have to do is plug it in, sprinkle fairy dust, say some magic words and it will work, right?

It has two games in boxes in the pack. I assume you just put these in a slot somewhere and 'bob's your uncle'?

It also, mysteriously, says there are two other games: one which might be already loaded up I guess (is this even possible?) and one which you may have to download from somewhere I guess...? Will it just take me through the steps. I really don t want upset and disappointment on Xmas morning...

important thing to find now is - how much memory this xbox has
I had to add external memory or my ds couldn't play any games!

luckily I had an external hard drive I was able to plug in
othervise it was going to be at least 32 GB flash drive

he plugged everything into the telly and was working but for the lack of memory

Frozennortherner · 21/12/2013 14:45

Thanks Anti.. It s something like 250 something or other

Oooh thanks for this, I'm equally worrying that it will be too complicated for Christmas morning and lovely dh is refusing to engage with the issue as he actually believes there's a christmas fairy that just creates a lovely christmas by magic!

that memory should be sufficient I believe

chocolatespiders · 23/12/2013 00:10

Do you buy the Hdmi cable or does it com with it? and is it needed to use the X box. Another one worried. I have bought one with low memory,dd will only be playing discs on it so didnt think the memory was needed?

antimatter · 23/12/2013 00:44

we used disk and needed that extra memory - I didn't undstand messages being displayed (they indicated I had enough internal memory , saving "game" means saving avatar and all scores) but 8 GB flash memory stick wasn't enough

we have this unused for now

we've used this one to connect to TV, so I can only guess there was no HDMI cable in the box, but maybe they vary in content - no idea so don't want to say one way or another

FannyFifer · 23/12/2013 00:50

Shit do I need a hdmi cable for it to work?

1sassylassy · 23/12/2013 06:16

My ds,s have had an xbox 360 for 4 years, they have never had a problem with memory, the latest GTA(they are older teens and above) runs fine on it.They have never had an hdmi cable, there is a cable in the box which plugs into the xbox and then into the back of your tv.
Set up wont take too long,if you are plugging it into your broadband, then there might be a systrem update, but otherwise you plug it in to the electric, connect the xbox to the tv and your done. There will be some set up time, registering users etc but by then your dcs will be so excited it will add to the fun.
The discs are loaded just as you would load a disc on a PC,the two other games may be built into the hard drive, they may be available to download free from the xbox store.Hope you and your dd,s have great fun using it ,I know my dc,s have even if I am sick of hearing stairway to heaven on Guitar hero,it has given them many hours of fun.Have a lovely Christmas and just shout if you need any more help.

Oh crap should have read this before. I'm also clueless, and I've wrapped the blooming thing already.

Didn't even think about how I'd attach it!

Frozennortherner · 23/12/2013 08:44

Thanks all. 1sassy, you've reassured me. I ve wrapped it up not having done anything now although on the box it said it included a connecting cable. Now for games.. Need another thread though I think

lassy which memory have you got. {{{{hoping for reassurance}}}}

I bought the 360 4gb with Kinnect in Morrisons for £120 thought I had got a bargain but now thinking they just wanted rid of the lower memory ones!!

1sassylassy · 23/12/2013 13:29

Unless you are going to be playing games that you save as you go along,GTA,FIFA are 2 that comes to mind, you will be fine.I have had 3ds,s playing on ours for 4 years, playing the sort of games that I mentioned above and they,ve never used all the memory.

chocolatespiders · 23/12/2013 13:46

thanks Lassy- we will see how we get on wit it. dd will probably want fifa but not GTA.

1sassylassy · 23/12/2013 16:05

Ds has just informed me you can expand the memory with an xbox hardrive, google gave me this but there are bound to be others if you look.

chocolatespiders · 23/12/2013 22:23

thanks 1sassylassy for your help Smile

chocolatespiders · 26/12/2013 13:04

oh no not managed to play anything on X Box yet Blush

Pugged it in and put Fifa 13 in hoping to play a game of football but no it wouldnt be that simple AAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH

Does it need to be connected to the internet?

Think Kinnect is a no go as the lounge is to samll Sad
