Empty box everytime I open a new page

On my computer everytime I open a new page an empty box appears with the close cross in the top right hand corner. I close it and carry on.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how I can rectify it please.

when mine does this I shut down and restart the computer

It is every single time though, right from the computer just being switched on.

What operating system is it, and what program are you in when you say 'open a new page'?

You don't mean the icon that means there can be a graphic there, but it's not being shown? Does it prevent you carrying on with the the activity?

We are Windows 7 and I am using Chrome.
What happens is that, say I'm on MN and I go on discussions of the day and click a link I can see the thread but the box which takes up most of the screen appears with a small cross in the right hand corner. I close the box and then I can see the thread. I then want to go on another link, I open that and the box is there again and I do the thing all over again. It is irritating more than anything.

Hi - sorry, I've not been around for a while, hence didn't answer.

Afraid I don't have any solution anyway. Maybe some feature got set 'on' by mistake, but I can't imagine what. It's as though a 'blank' page is being superimposed on top of the page you actually want. So it sounds like a 'display' problem.

Windows can do all sorts of strange things, either just of its own accord, or because lots of little problems all pile up, then the operating system can't cope any longer and 'crashes'.

Our DS is a programmer and will be home for Xmas, so if I can remember, I'll ask him about it.

is your Antivirus up to speed?
I did a quick search and someone recommended running MalwareBytes and Spybot Search And Destroy
