Ipod shuffle any good without a screen?

DH is lacking in gadgets and I have an ipod (can't remember the name but they don't make it anymore), anyway I think he'd appreciate his own.
Looking at what's available I see the shuffle, little square one, is tons cheaper than the others but I assume that's cos it's basic and has no screen?
We have two radios with docks around the house so am avoiding the newest ipods as they have the new lightning connection.
Or does anyone have an opinion about the 'classic' ipod instead?

the shuffle is rubbish, I'd get a different one for him. DH has the Classic and me and dd have the nano. DD is getting the ipod touch for xmas as he ipod isnt holding its charge very well.

Was there an older nano? About three years ago? Think that's what I have! Am wondering about the classic as would like one which fits our docks.

So am I right that the Touch is internet-enabled? He hasn't got a tablet so that may be an idea, however he prefers android to apple....argh.
