My faithful old netbook is on it's way out ...recommendations needed please

I've had my little Samsung netbook for 4 years now, and after being dropped by the kids a year or so back, and generally losing its speed and memory rather like its owner it's on its way out.

I need a replacement but I'm on a budget.

I mainly use my laptop for excel and word documents (so this is a must) and surfing the internet.

I'd like something that's pretty portable (maybe 11" or so) with a good battery life.

Any ideas/recommendations?

I like the look of the chromebooks, but can you do MS docs on them? I apologise now if that's a really daft question ...

You can open and edit Office documents on Chromebooks but it's not full-featured Office. If you want to see what you can do with it have a look at Google Drive. That's what you use on a Chromebook.

The other big issue with a Chromebook is that you can't plug a printer directly into one. You need to print via another computer.

Hmm sounds like Chromebook isn't for me then. Thanks Howard.
