Load Balanced Router

Anyone know anything about networking, in particular load balancing between two connections?

Two internet connections:
Adsl
Satellite

Neither is that stable, currently two wifi networks - so expect that causes some conflict as well.

So the thought is, have one wifi network which uses both internet connections. Can that be done? A bit of searching has resulted in Load Balanced Routers, which will aim to direct traffic to the best connection at the time. It seems that for some traffic types, it will combine the two connections while for other traffic it will direct all requests via one connection, whilst directing other traffic via another. Does that make sense?

Anyone got experience with this? Could this work to combine the bandwidth and/or offer a fall back if one link goes down (the Sat link is not very reliable but is faster than the ADSL).
