Is there a way to save a web mail box so as to preserve the mails indefinitely?

I am moving house to an area not served by Virgin Media, so I have to switch to another broadband provider. VM tell me that my virgin media mailbox will be deleted after 90 days and there are tons of mails in there I need to preserve. is there a simple way to save the mailbox so I can keep access to the mails?

There is probably a more 'techy' way but I would just forward the ones I want to my new email address.

I'm now with virginmedia and pay BT £1.60p a month to keep my old BT email - do VM offer a service like this?

I have phoned VM and they were not a wild lot of help - I will try again and suggest that tho, many thanks.

Set up a local (i.e. on your computer) email program (Try some from here) and then sync it with your VM email account. You will need the SMTP settings from VM which you should be able to find in the Help/My Account pages.

Enter those details when setting up the local email account, and then Send/Receive when it's done. It may ask if you want to get existing emails, or you may have to force it to get them but once got, they're on your computer.

Yes there is. You can as WMittens suggests download a mail program such as Outlook or Thunderbird but there is also a way using a web based mail service such as outlook.com or gmail.com

So firstly create a new account in Outlook.com. For example [email protected]

When you log in, click on the settings button on the top right which looks like a cog.

Next choose "More email settings" then "Your email accounts"

Next click "Add a send & receive account".
At the next screen click on "Advanced Options"

Now fill in the details the best you can. For server address use: "pop3.virginmedia.com". For sending mail choose "Send emails using Outlook's server"

Click "Next" then choose a folder to store your VM mails in.

Click Save.

That's it. It is actually a lot easier than it sounds. Outlook.com is the new Hotmail so it will remain free for the forseeable future meaning you will be extremely unlikely to have to change your email address ever again.
