Hi does anyone know if you can have two recordable sky + boxes in one house from one account? I currently have an old sky box in my bedroom and a sky + hd in the living room. Is it possible to have a recordable sky + box in the bedroom also? Have been looking at them on eBay as they are too expensive through sky them selves. So the question is if I buy one will it actually work and how? Do I just put the card in the new box and away we go or is there more too it? TIA

To get the recording working you will have to speak with Sky and pay them a monthly fee for multiroom.

I don't have Sky anymore but if my memory serves me right, Sky boxes are owned by you so they shouldn't be bothered if you buy one from eBay. So long as they can tie your account to the box.

Thanks for that, I have a multi room subscription I'd just got it in my head for some reason that you couldn't have two sky plus boxes.

It will also depend on the dish connections - Sky+ needs two for each box, whereas a non-+ box only needs one. If you only have the two boxes you should be ok, but if there is a third, you might need a new connector box on the dish, as I think the older ones only had 4 connectors in total.

Also, Sky can require you to have the boxes connected to a phone line where you have multiroom - would you be able to do that in your bedroom? They sometimes make the boxes do callbacks to confirm they are still connected to the same line they were installed on, to check that you haven't given the box & sub to someone else.

EFNO - I thought they required a callback so that if you choose to have a PPV item (eg a sports event or a film) then that selection will be reported to Sky HQ so you can be billed...

Not entirely sure I understand the last two posts but I do have a phone line in the bedroom and as it happens we actually have two sky dishes as when the guy came to install it he said we needed another dish as we already have a multi room running from the original dish into another bedroom.

NG - no the callback thing is a condition of the initial contract, if they try to call your box a certain no of times and it doesn't respond they will write to you and say that if they can't get a response within x number of days they will charge you for a full second subscription. The thing is, the callbacks are randomised, so you might never get one, it just depends. I had this once, they sent me a letter, I told them to send an engineer and the modem in the box had packed in since it had been installed, so no problem.
If your box isn't plugged in to a phone line, the PPV stuff won't work (I think it might now if you connect it to your broadband, but I'm not sure).

Candy - if you have a phone line, then you'll have no problems, and if you've got two dishes you should be fine for the number of connections you need.

Once you have the box installed you need to call Sky to add another multiroom sub, and they will send you a new card, once you get it you'll probably have to call them to get it 'paired' to the box and get the Sky+ and your subscription activated on it, but the letter with it will tell you what you need to do.

You can have several sky+ boxes, just need multirooms subs. Each sky+ needs 2 wires from the dish to the box, so you might need a dish upgrade.
I have more than one sky+ box in the house, and all record. Each box needs a card, you can put your card from old sky box into new sky+ box, just phone them to activate it for the box.

Oh and none are connected to the phone line. I've been with sky for over 10 years. Never been connected, for quite a few years didn't even have a working phone line.

Unless you really want several of the Sky-only channels, I'd think many could save a load of cash if they get a FreeSat+ Box (so it would be possible to record if wanted).

A FreeSat box will work with a Sky dish (so if you are near the end of a minimum term, you could buy a FreeSat or FreeSat+ box, and have HD service on the better boxes, but have no monthly fees to pay).

Back when the Olympics were on, there were around 20 or 24 HD channels from the BBC and no fee to pay over and above the initial cost of my HD box (mine was 90 quid from Tesco, and they sent a satellite firm to install a dish, too, included in that price about a year ago).

There really are a lot of the channels on FreeSat, but clearly not Sky Sports or Movies and you may have a lot of other specialist interests which wouldn't be on the free to air service. It's perhaps worth a look (for someone else who happens to find this thread) if there is no massive need for subscription only services on a second or further box...

Thanks for the clarification EFNO. I know a number of people have had boxes connected for years without a phone line connection. I think after the first year, it's easier to disconnect and not worry much about it.
