My laptop won't switch off! Why?

Last couple of days my laptop won't shut down - never had this problem before. Normally I click Start button and one of the options is "Shut down" - I click this but nothing happens. Weird. Any ideas? At the moment I'm just having to power it off which can't be good for it.

What operating system are you running?Someone with XP is having the same problem here

Try the power saving options - there should be a little battery icon in the bottom right hand corner near your clock. That might shed some light?

Sounds weird though. It should shut down regardless if you click the shut down button on screen.

Its probably stuck in some update process. Press and hold the power button this will force all laptops to turn off. Wait until the disc has stopped spinning and check the laptop is not too hot.

Then turn it back on. If you are faced with a "windows did not shut down" message chose the "start windows normally" option. This will default in 20 seconds anyway.

Dp is an it tech, he says to plug it out, take out the battery and hold down the power button for 40 or 50 seconds to drain any residual power. Then put the battery back and start it up again and see if it's fixed the problem. If not the os may be corrupted which will require a wipe and setup so save all your data externally and bring it to a repair shop.
