AIBU to think that a older use of the word blog is being lost?

Am I right to think that a 'blog was originally a weblog where people posted links to "Cool Stuff I Found On The Internet" with a little commentary?

And whether I'm right or not, I feel my feed reader has too many yummy mummy blogs and not enough cool stuff that people are finding on the internet.

I follow kottke.org and often check www.metafilter.com. If you like that sort of thing what other things might I like?

You'd be right that it's a weblog. Whether they were necessarily cool or not is a matter of opinion, but they're more like a diary.

Of course, nowadays they just tend to be the incessant ramblings of people who want to feel important.....
