Anyone upgraded the RAM on an iMac?

I've just ordered 4GB of RAM for my early 2008 iMac (the max it will accept). Should be here in 3-4 days.

I've watched a video on how to install it, and it LOOKS simple, but has anyone here done it? Was it easy? Did you see a huge improvement in performance? I like to play games and edit video on mine so this really is well overdue. Also I can't upgrade to Mountain Lion til I do it.

It's dead easy. Just make sure you have the modules the right way up and be prepared to be surprised at how hard you have to push them to get them to go in. You have to pull quite hard to get the old ones out so you'll be warned.

All your performance benefits will disappear when you "upgrade" to Mountain Lion

I did it on a macbook and it was very straightforward, you tube is great for tutorials like that!

It's done (I had to get my mum to help - good thing I'm still at home ) but it's SO quick! There's still a bit of lag with some websites, but I think that's my internet connection rather than the computer.

I think I'll hold off on Mountain Lion for a bit and enjoy this :)

Yes, it's really easy - and I am no techie. The nice boy man at the Apple store showed me. I was able to upgrade to Snow Leopard from Tiger & no higher (apparently my imac is 'vintage' ) but to be honest I haven't really noticed much difference in efficiency. But at least I can upgrade my Touch now...

It's so simple I'd probably let my 6 year old have a go.

As for performance increase you will see a big difference when editing videos and possibly playing games too. Loading times of Safari etc will probably be faster too.

It won't make websites load any faster though
