A few questions about the Borg

How did they come about? Like, who was the first Borg? Or was there a group of people who were really into computers and technology and decided, hey, let's hook all our brains together and see what happens?

And what's the deal with the Borg Queens? How do you get to be one? When one dies, like in First Contact, did they pick another one?

They are v. scary, by the way. I do not want to be assimilated! Know your enemy, that's what I say...

And is there only one Queen at any given time? Or lots of them, scattered about the place? And how come they're human? Why isn't there, say, a Klingon Queen, or a Vulcan one?

I think they were a group of people who became more and more technically advanced. Eventually they came across that weird automated starship repair station in Enterprise and one assimilated the other. Who knows which?

Maybe the Borg went back in time and assimilated themselves from the past?

Ooh, scary! They are great baddies though. I'm in the middle of a Voyager marathon. The scariest thing is when the crew go on the ship and can walk around, and the Borg ignore them, because they're not a threat. For some reason that really freaks me out! I think they're the baddest baddies in Star Trek.

When I was young I had a recurring dream where I was running and hiding from the Borg. I always woke up just as I got assimilated. I'd forgotten about that until just now.
