Oh bum, just googled myself and all my FB posts are there for the world to see

What, if anything, can I do (apart from not googling myself of course ) to stop my FB posts being flashed around the internetty world of google? I thought I had my privacy settings on correctly, but obviously not. Help, someone, please!!

Delete them? What a nightmare

Set them to only friends can see Posts, photos, Wall, basically everything.

hmm i just did the same and only 2 came up, from a yr ago. i was able to delete them on that page.

there was another where i was highlighted as i had 'liked' something on an open group. couldn't do anything about that one

Are you sure you just can't see them because you are logged in? Your profile pics will come up in a search. They are public.

In Privacy you can select to allow search engines to search your timeline. Switch that to OFF

You can mass change settings of past posts to Friends only. And yes, turn search engine off.

Right, just had a look. Search engine option is already off, and only friends can see my posts etc. but I've just realised that a lot of what is public is from my open groups. Is there really nothing that can be done about that?

Fortunately there is nothing incriminating on there, but it's horrible to see how easy it would be to trace me - my work address and phone number, home address, the clubs that I'm a member of, all there for anyone to see (if anyone was that interested...)

Have you checked images on google too?

This is why I am under the radar - no facebook, no linkedin, email only - I am ungooglable and glad of it! Personally I think more and more people will go this way going forward - I never really got all this over sharing anyway - I value my privacy and find it bizzare that others (not a dig at you OP) don't .

I don't think any of my groups (that I actually post in) are open. I'd start by asking the group admin about making the groups closed, and explain your concerns.

I completely take your point Blonde, but my work is public facing (NHS) and so a lot of my work is public property, sadly. I'm also on our local community council, and again it's in the public domain.However, I'm a member of a local club which is definitely not in the public domain so will ask if the administrator can make the group closed - we're made up of members across the region so really need a FB group to operate. Well, we don't need it obv, there was life before FB and the internet and being a child of the 70s I can remember those days well! It just makes things much easier...although the downside is that you become very traceable.

Just checked my images, and yes, I'm on there too - along with masses of pictures of cakes which are the products of the club I belong to!!

Don't have my mobile, address or any other details on my profile - the address stuff comes through on google as a result of my work with the community council when we've objected to planning applications. Work stuff is the same - comes through on a google search.

I think I'll need to look at setting up another FB account, but not sure how that will work in reality...thanks for all your posts though

Facebook isn't private. Everything you post on there can be picked up through Google. The only way to have 'private' information online is to have it on a secure site.
