What do I do to the iPad to stop DCs accessing porn on the internet by accident?

or indeed by design?! I have a programme which deals with that on my pc but I'm too stupid to know if I buy another one or the same one again for the iPad.

and will that also mean I need to turn off the parental control, or whatever it is, if I want to watch something on the BBC i player which is deemed to have adult content? I am quite happy with that as a concept, I'd just like to know if that is what the effect is.

Try settings > general > restrictions

There are age restrictions settings

Go into Settings - General - Restrictions

Select 'enable restrictions'

Select what you wish to allow, and scroll down to 'Allowed Content' to choose which age rating you allow to be viewed.

You will have to disable this if you want to view certain content.

That only works with actual downloaded media. It doesn't work with websites or youtube which unfortunately I have found.

So....just had something pop up from nowhere called Local Slags....nice. How do I get rid of that, and any stuff it may have brought with it....

This is actually a big hole which either someone needs to plug quickly or Apple need to step up and give parents an option.

Right now Safari (the web browser) can be disabled but it cannot be set up to block porn but not other sites.

I've managed to do it in my house by creating a server, using some special software and rerouting all traffic through the server. But then I'm a total IT geek and it's not something I'd recommend most normal sane people try at home.

So until then, I'd suggest turning off Safari. That said ipad's should be treated in the same way as laptops. Parents should regularly check what children are doing and not leave them unattended for long periods to do what they like with any computing device.

Can you point the DNS lookup on the network setup either on the device or on your router to Open DNS? Google that and it'll let you sign up and give you the IP addresses. It's an open domain name service that purports to filter out dodgy stuff.

I use openDNS at the router level and then change the DNS server on each device to match (password protecting any further system setting changes). That catches most things. However you can't catch everything ( google images is hard to block) and older kids are good at finding what they want to find. I haven't found an effective Internet curfew system yet, but nothing beats "I'll sit with you when you use the www"
