A LOT of questions about consoles!

Sorry to ask so many questions, any help much appreciated.....

We're looking to by a console for DS's 6th birthday. We have a PS2 but tbh it hasn't been used since DS's arrival.

New console will be for all of us - ds, dh and myself, but we are very out of touch.

Is there much difference between PS3 and Xbox?

Is Xbox Kinect worth looking at?

Are there any newer consoles out or about to come out?

We are in Spain but are looking to buy from the UK. Will there be a problem with regions? We would need to be able to have and download content in english.

Finally, can anyone give me any opinions about Skylanders Giants for DS who will be six shortly.

Thankyou!!

My nearly 8 year old and all his friends love Skylanders, they talk about elements and light cores and all sorts I don't understand but they love it.

Kinect is better than ps move in my opinion but our Xbox just sits unused at the moment.

Might be worth looking at a review *> on Pocket-Lint

UK and Spain are completely compatible, they all come under the same global region so what you buy in Spain is identical to the UK except the plug on the console itself, which can be sorted with a simple adapter anyway as the voltage is the same. All downloads and physical discs in Europe are again identical and will be in English as well as a plethora of other languages if you fancy!

All three big names have new consoles this year, the Wii U is already out and, in my opinion, if you want it for the whole family and are likely to all play together, this is the one to go for. Microsoft will l be releasing the Xbox 720 at some point, likely November time and the PS4 will be aiming at the same time frame.

On the other hand, if you want to save a bit of money and aren't worried about the bleeding edge, you can pick up some good deals on the older consoles. I wouldn't bother with a 360 as it's not that different to the PS3 but lacks the Blu Ray support.

Thanks for clarifying on voltages etc. Yes, the article I read did point to considering buying a PS3 now as they're good value, and you'll still be using it in 3 years time, by which time prices for the PS4 will start dropping :)

Thanks everyone! Really helpful. I will look into the Wii U - we had ruled out the Wii as we weren't bowled over by it when we had a go on one when they first came out.

Does anyone have any opinions on Kinect and PS Move - worth bothering with? I like quite like the idea of dancing games, and DS is a keen dancer but not sure how well these work.

As far as downloads and regions go, I'm presuming I won't have any issues buying games from the UK and then downloading updates from a spanish isp.

Thanks again!

Re the downloading updates, no problem. Just think of the whole of Europe as the same place, it's all serviced by one entity.

Brilliant. Thanks PedroPony.
