kindle fire 16GB help please!

so i finally bought the kindle fire, but only the 16GB version as i thought that this would have enough space as i didnt envisage having enough stuff on it to warrant the extra money for the 32GB.
anyway, have set it all up and whilst fiddling have found that i only have 12.3 GB of storage left, out of an available 12.9GB. what happened to the 16GB? is some of that the cloud storage? i have only added one small book (and amazon have sent me a sample of another) and i have added my email account. it says that some space is taken up with apps and videos???

also, the book i purchased from amazon seems to be on the kindle and nothing the cloud storage space. i thought that everything you bought from amazon stayed on the cloud. what am i doing wrong? please help, i am rubbish with gadgets !!

when you bought the book did you send to that device? The title appears on the carousel unless you remove it.

thank you, i have just checked and the book is on my device AND the cloud. i also have 2 dictionaries on the device too - i guess these are just there as i haven't added them myself? have managed to get rid of some things on the carousel now too

Every quote on internal storage is inclusive of the space taken up by the operating system and all the preloaded apps and other background software. So in this case all that stuff is taking up about 3Gb of your 16Gb.
