Safari keeps crashing on my Mac which is about 5 years old maybe more, help please!!

Please help me before I go bonkers. Dh (who is now away on a course) decided to clean up the mac and get rid of a lot of stuff we don't use and old documents etc etc. Then he removed firefox (which in my mind was working perfectly well), and installed something called Opera. Well Opera didn't work too well as a browser, so he then deleted that and installed safari, but after about 10 minutes on safari it crashes especially sites like mn and facebook. I now cannot get firefox to download at all. I am about losing the will to live. Can anyone help? Is it that the mac is getting old? Please can you explain also or suggest another browser in language for the thick, as I am not computer savvy at all in any way, shape or form!

This was happening to me until I upgraded to the latest version of firefox today, but it has been fine since (my laptop is 8 years old and not a mac so not entirely sure what will help you). Try removing all browsers but one and then go to filehippo.com. it's an excellent site full of free software, maybe you'll find a browser there that will work?!

I use chrome on both my aged MacBook and my work pc laptop. Have you tried checking for system updates? Mine is probably more than five years old and is quite happy (apart from the battery which is likely to give up the ghost very soon!) running Chrome though.

By the way, for updates go to the 'apple' at the top left and select 'Software Update'.

Ah thank you sapphirestar, filehippo appears to just have windows based browsers. But thank you.

PP it says its uptodate when I click on software update. I think I will need to wait until Dh is back as he is more techy than me. It's crashing on here as well. . Thanks for your help.

Oh sorry! Despite being an ict technician, i don't actually work with macs and don't have a clue! Hope you've sorted it now
