Is an Ipod touch the best thing to buy her?

My daughter has an Ipod shuffle and is asking for an Ipod touch. Basically I think she wants it for games and will obviously transfer her music across. Although, it wouldn't be a personal present, just wondering whether it's better to pay the extra and buy some sort of tablet which the whole family can use.

Which would you say was the best thing to buy? I don't know much about tablets, but I guess the main things are games and internet access.

My son (11) has an iPod touch which was an upgrade from a shuffle which I briefly inherited. It's a 32gb so was quite pricey.

Now he commutes to secondary school on the bus he has reclaimed the shuffle to deter mugging and I also don't like the idea of him having yet more opportunities to be playing game apps.

I thought we would all share music on it but that hasn't happened as it's very much a personal stereo / games console for him. So Santa is bringing me an iPad for myself and will be hiding it from him and DP!! Hope this helps

From what I can see, the iPod touch is a smaller version of an iPad. My mum wanted a replacement for her old iPod mini and we got her the touch as it has tons more features which she has started using. She can't really have an iPad in the gym or cart it about as easily so it is perfect for her.
An iPad isn't that much more money but what will your DD wanting to do with it? I would not want my children taking an iPad around with them as they are quite bulky, even the mini ones. I think it's nice for them to have something that is theirs if affordable.
