samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 vs google nexus 7? please help, techie types, my head is swiiiiiiimming.

i know that the nexus is the winner on spec, BUT they work out much the same price-wise and i think i'd rather have the bigger screen of the samsung. (i have the note 2 as a phone, as per previous MN recommendations and i do love it).

any advice?

I'm normally a fan of plan old Google Android.

BUT

If you've got a Note then the Nexus 7 just won't feel different enough in size, and there is a benefit to having machines that all do stuff the same way.

The samsung 16gb is £195 in carphone warehouse then you take the £50 off which is amazing price


I got dd the samsung 7 inch for £145 then take off £30. was tempted to take it back and get the 10 inch but worried it will be to heavy on her delicate wrists

I have the Nexus, because a big thing for me is using it as a kindle. You can't really use a 10 inch as a book.

10 inch is heavier, can't hold it in one hand comfortably for long.

10 inch is better if you want to watch films.

Biggest drawback with nexus 7 for me is no rear-facing camera, so I can Skype/video chat but can't take photos of anything but my face.....

Nope the nexus only has a VGA webcam on the screen side. No outward facing camera.

The nexus only has the camera at the front so you can webcam or take pics of yourself.

The samsung has front facing camera and also a rear camera. DD would use the rear camera more walking round the house taking lots of random pictures of shampoo etc. This was one of the reason I went for the Samsung (and the cashback helped!!)

Oh I see - so it's just a webcam and not a camera. I assumed they'd all be like the iPhone cameras (you just switch view).

I'm not interested in the camera side of it as I have a camera I prefer to use than phone/pad/whatever, so haven't looked into that side of it at all. But I can see why your DD would enjoy that side of it. I bet you are excited about her opening it on CD. Is it all charged up and ready to go??

Oh dear I hadn't even thought of that it is in sealed box in carphone warehouse bag.... I am scared to handle it because I am not tech enough to even know how to turn it on let alone charge it.

Phew - crisis averted! Nothing worse than a new thing they can't use on CD because it needs batteries you don't have or hours worth of charging!

Aitch - If the samsung is the one you want then keep checking carphone warehouse as the 7 inch went in and out of stock before I bought it.

Personally I think rear cameras are totally pointless on tablets - you just look like a berk holding up a giant iPad or whatever to take a photo. Front camera great :) I wish they'd put the high resolution one on the front if they insist on having 2.

Ah true! I was only commenting because I saw an adult taking pictures on an iPad at Warwick Castle, and he looked stupid. Why you wouldn't just buy a cheapish camera, I don't know.

I've been lurking with interest, am considering the 10.1" Galaxy Tab (it's ?309.99 in Argos at the mo with the ?50 cashback making it ?259.99).

Does anyone know if the prices in Argos change significantly after Christmas?
(or if things like this tend to go back to the original price...)

The cashback applies for stuff bought up to 31st Dec, so I'm hoping that if I hold off till after Christmas I'll get a further reduction.

And just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons - is there any point in holding off for a few more months and saving for an iPad?...

I've got the tab 10.2 and i like it but aitch i think its only a dual core processor if you have a note phone i think its quad core and maybe zippier which might annoy you.
