New pc (which is running), 4 -ish year old screen , cable probably older . Have tried unplugging and reinserting cable to no effect, though it doesn't seem a secure fit on the screen, so wonder if the cable is likely to be the issue?

VGA cable? Check all the pins are straight.

Thanks , dh reckons the pc had gone onto standby and I hadn't pressed the on button hard enough ! Hmm Methinks cable a bit dodgy !

Could be either TBH Grin My computer seems to go into standby sometimes when I'm not paying attention.

Has it ever worked with this new PC?

LIZS · 12/12/2012 07:18

Glad it is working.

For info, another possible reason for seeing nothing is when the video from a PC is at a high resolution and scanning rate which cannot be handled by a monitor.

Some show an error message but others will often show nothing (rather than a lot of scrambled video). Obviously awkward if settings cannot be seen so impossible to change...
