New iPod Nano (7th generation) and docking

Can anybody tell me please if the iPod nano I have bought for ds2s Christmas is going to be compatible with the docking pig (yes, it looks like a pig) that pils have bought him? Or do I need to get some kind of connector?

The Nano will probably (not sure though - just based on evidence of previous Ipod models) come with several plastic adaptors for working with earlier docking stations. And presuming this pig-docker is new, it should also be mentioned on the packaging which models it is compatible with. If it's not explicitly mentioned, try contacting the manufacturers of the docking station.

I'm just unsure because I haven't actually sen nano yet (should be delivered on Monday), but I've heard that new iPhone and iPod touch have some new lightning connector or something, and I suspect that nano will probably be the same. I know what you mean about the plastic adaptor things because I've had them with my own old nano, but I think this is a whole new system

The pig will probably state if it's a lightning connector (the new one) and say nothing if it's a 30-pin (old) connection.

The 7th gen nano uses a lightning connector so unless it's a lightning dock, you'll need an adapter which are about £20 Plus it might look silly with an adaptor, depending on which type you get - you can get a short one which is like a little block, or one which has about 2" of cable between the two connections. The block would probably be best for a docking station.

If it's this one with the big eyes, that looks like an old 30-pin connection.

The nano 7th generation has the new lightning connector, so unless the pig dock (assume it's this one) has been updated you will need an adaptor - not the little bits of plastic that allow different iPods/phones to sit properly in the dock, but Apple's own 30pin to lightning adaptor that costs £25. Even then, you might find the extra height makes the whole thing a bit wobbly.

Yep, that's the pig....and that's what I'd thought...it's not really going to work is it? Why have Apple changed it? There are going to be hundreds of different docking stations and things that are no use now [bconfused]

Ooh bugger. I've bought my DSes new iPod Nano's for Christmas and have bought them alarm clocks with docking stations from Argos. It never occurred to me that Apple had changed the charging bit!

I'm going to look into it now, just incase, and change the alarm clocks if necessary! I can't be doing with DH going on about why I didn't check!

That's how I feel MsElle.... It's such a pain, and mil has phoned me and checked its the right pig, and done price comparisons and all sorts - I think she has ordered it from Amazon in the end because ds2 had specified a red one. I can't tell her now they're not compatible! I might need to return the nano and go for an older Touch.

Trouble is, there aren't an awful lot of docking stations/speakers/clocks available yet with the new connection. Because Apple are so secretive about their changes none of the companies who make docks knew what the connector was going to be like before the iPhone 5 was announced in September, so there hasn't been much time to build them before Christmas.
In fact JBL are the only ones I've seen so far , and they've only been out a couple of weeks.

I can't return the Nano's because I bought them from Apple and had their names engraved on them! I have just bought the adapter bit from Amazon because they have iPod docking stations on their stereos as well, so they will need them really!

Bloody Apple, we've bought loads of things from iPod shuffles to iPads over the years. I feel a bit ripped off if I'm honest!
