I have the chance to upgrade my phone (have a samsung galaxy ace) and was idly browsing the options. I know nothing about blackberry or iphones, so can anyone explain the basics?
I could have a blackberry 9380 (no keyboard?) OR 9360 or 9790 for free and then my usual tariff or I could have a iphone 4s 16gb for 39? and then my usual tariff.
What's the advantage of an iphone? I mostly text and use what'sApp and sometimes receive files (word, pdf etc) to look at and soetimes write short emails, so with the samsung I can do a quick e mail but can't open files...I see blackberry supports/has office/pdf...do you pay extra for that?
What's the big deal with an iphone?

Have posted in chat too.

Have you asked about the Samsung Galaxy S3? That is usually cheaper than the iphone and since you already have the Ace, it will be a bit more familiar to you.

The new iphone 5 looks very nice but it's not really on the leading edge anymore (in my opinion). The screens a little bigger (so what). It's slightly thinner than the last but that's like a supermodel going on a diet. Hardly necessary in the first place.

Blackberries are only popular nowadays with teenagers who want to use BBM to talk to their mates. Given you use Whatsapp I can't see it being a big bonus.

Phones are now (rightly or wrongly) part fashion statement as to who you are. The iPhone is very popular and still is sought after because of its premium price tag and perceived luxury brand name.

The S3 is simply an amazing piece of kit only marred a little by its less than gorgeous looks. But that's like saying the Cheryl Cole is a bit of a mong because she's stood next to Kelly Brook!

Blackberry.....well...get one of them and you may as well say "I'm behind the times and gonna go on a riot tonite. Innit!"

I bought the Blackberry Bold 9900 - cheap and cheerful from Compare Mobile Phones It might not have the same street cred as iPhone but arent iphones seen everywhere? Great for Apple but not so much a fashion statement as a BlackBerry @niceguy2

It's weird, for some reason, people seem to think that having an iPhone is some kind of expression of wealth and coolness. When really it says "look at me, I'm the same as everyone else".

BlackBerrys on the other hand are old news. RIM took too long to realise that their market was being invaded and are now on their way out. No longer being used by businesses and not as cool for the kids since free messaging became available on other operating systems.

I'm with nice guy here. I think you want an S3. You'd probably find an iPhone really annoying and restrictive since you're already using Android which is a much more customisable platform.

Another vote for the S3. You already have android phone so will be easy to switch. BlackBerry are on the way out and have far fewer apps than other platforms. And Iphones are pretty but a bit look at me.

I love my iPhone 4S. I'd heartily recommend it. But I'm an apple fan. And haven't tried anything else! But I can't imagine any other kind of phone now. It does everything so well IMO.
