Skype question

I did my first ever Skype conference call today but it wasn't what I expected it to be.

I logged on and pressed video call to call the other person. They could see and hear me but I could only hear them and spent an hour looking at myself.

Was the fault at my end in something I haven't set up properly or was it as simple as they hadn't turned on their camera. I was on an iPad and they were on a pc if that helps.

We have this problem with the GPs sometimes, I think when they answer they need to click video call otherwise you don't get their picture.

I'd say definitely at their end though!

Yes, chances are the other person did not click to start the video part of the call.
