Broken glass on ipod touch 8gb 4th generation . There seem to be kits one can buy to self repair for under a tenner.
Would I be wasting my time and money?
Thanks

DH did it with a second gen iPod touch. He said it was fiddly and he too a while but no problems at all and it works perfectly now. The little tools came with the screen.

Other option is apple replace them for £80. Anything else does invalidate any remaining warranty.

Thats the problem, it is sooooo expensive to get apple to do it, could almost buy a new one!

Thanks, can you remember where he bought his kit from?

It was from someone on eBay. He isn't in but I could try to ask the seller name when I see him (probably Thursday)

Yes we did as iPod screen shattered. Make sure you get the correct one as we didn't and they were similar. We got it off eBay then went on YouTube for instructions , works fine but very fiddly.

thats great, thank you both Smile

DH has put a new screen in mine, but it's still in bits because a wire has broken to the power switch.

I'm not asking if he broke it Wink

I had a similar issue a year ago when my DS dropped his brand new ipod touch he got for his birthday.

Not sure which kit you were looking for but at under a tenner, that could be just the glass only. If so I'd shy away from that since Apple have bonded the glass to the digitizer on the 4th gen ipod's. Meaning it's practically impossible not to mention fiddly to get the glass off without damaging something.

You can get both the digitizer/glass in one unit for around £15 from ebay. I'd get that instead. When I fixed my DD's iphone I used instructions from ifixit.com

Otherwise there are local computer shops which will do it for you for around £30-40. Might be money well spent if you are not comfortable with opening up the ipod.

niceguy thanks so much for that info. Is the digitiser the LCD bit? I have emailed a chap on ebay to ask and they said they have the screen and lcd. Is this what you mean?
Infact, I am happy for a local computer company to do it as you suggest. It is just the question of finding one.

Dh did. It took him 5 hours! And he is quite technically minded and organised with fiddly things. He says next time he will pay someone to do it for him.

I think you have me convinced that it is a repair job for a professional!

Especially as it is this 4th generation one which seems even more fiddly than the usual.

Now to find someone.....!
