New Tablet - set up for 10yo Boy

I've just bought a cheap tablet for my son for Christmas. I tried setting up a google account for him but he is too young to have his own. How do I go about setting this up for email, apps etc. Dont know whether it's best to fudge the age on the google account or whether he can be a subsidiary of mine. I dont want him downloading loads of apps that cost a fortune. Thanks for any help.

I got one from amazon, it's cheap but seems that it'll be fine for him, tablet. I'm just not sure how best to go about downloading apps etc for him. Any help gratefully received.

When you set up a google mail account,this will let you acess the play store where you can download apps,music,books etc.If you worried about him downloading apps that are going to cost a fortune just dont link a credit or debit card to it,there are thousands of free apps anyway.
