My 4 year old loves my iphone, I'm thinking of buying her an ipod touch for her 5th birthday.

Would I have to buy all the apps again, or can I share them between the 2 devices?

No you'd just put them on it.

BUT disable in app purchases and think very hard about actually using the parental settings really tightly and maybe even disconnecting WIFI unless you want her to be on the web- turn it on when you want it and off again.

Get a good case and insure it.

It will break if dropped /stood on, it's not a toy (you'd not believe the sob stories on MSE about "it must be faulty as it broke when my kid dropped it"....ummm nope it's a gadget not a toy)
