Which do you pick?

I was so ready to break up with Apple but now they've said I can have either or. The Iphone is marginally more expensive.

Help me!

Samsung - wasn't that model, but had 3 Samsung phones in the past (they were purty!) and all of them had terrible trouble with battery life, two just up and broke on me after a few months ownership, and one of them had an interesting glitch where if I called someone in my contacts list, it dialled a completely different contact at random.

The ones that broke stopped being able to make or receive calls. I blamed my mobile service provider at first, until I took the phones into the stores and it was agreed that the phones were beyond repair.

I'd had Nokia before that and never any trouble. iPhone since and never any trouble. Samsung phones hate me.

Their tv's are great though.

HoneyDragon · 08/10/2012 13:28

uh oh wavering

stupid, stupid choices, grr.

I had a Samsung, ds has a Samsung, three friends have or had samsungs - all have problems with battery life, sending/receiving photos, wifi connectability (is that a word?) and phone blacking out for no reason and having to take it apart and jiggle the battery to sort it.
These are samsungs across the range, cheaper ones and expensive new ones.

No-one I know with an iProduct has ever had any issue, well maybe one, but customer services were excellent and replaced the phone within three days.

PedanticPanda · 08/10/2012 13:44

I thought Apple was meant to be for poncy people who value style over substance?

I have a lot of apple products, I purchased them for their quality. I'm certainly not 'poncy' Hmm

SoupDragon · 08/10/2012 13:49

I thought non-Apple products were for those who can't afford Apple.

[arf]

I don't really think this of course.

HoneyDragon · 08/10/2012 13:49

Please note. I already own an iPhone. Grin I was repeating what I have been told - not insulting iPhone users.

People keep insisting at me that Samsung is the better SmartPhone and that I don't need to be tied to Apple.

I was all ready to jump, put then familiarity was offered at a better price.

Iphone - simples

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 08/10/2012 13:55

iPhone

Nyx · 08/10/2012 14:03

iPhone. The people who are telling you that Samsung phones are better are biased for whatever reason (and just wrong imo). I have had no problems in the past years being 'tied to apple'. Am quite happy being tied to the App Store etc to be honest, have never ever had an issue with it.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Nyx · 08/10/2012 14:06

And I am v v far from being poncy, and I value style AND substance Grin

SecretNutellaFix · 08/10/2012 14:12

Galaxy. I have had no problems with my s2 and have had it over a year. Hopefully it will keep behaving itself.

SoupDragon · 08/10/2012 14:13

All my phones prior to my iPhone have been Samsung. The last one was really shoddy and I had to make a snap decision about whether to go for an iphone. I have not regretted it.
TBH, the size of the Samsung is the deal breaker for me - I wouldn't want to go bigger than an iPhone.

picnicbasketcase · 08/10/2012 14:14

iPhone. Now I've had one, I don't want anything else.

Snorbs · 08/10/2012 14:14

I've had a Samsung Galaxy S2 for over a year and it's been great. I've just got my son a Galaxy Ace 2 as I've been so impressed with mine.

If you've already got Macs at home it would probably be worth sticking with Apple. If not, though, try out the Galaxy S3 in a shop and see how you feel about the bigger screen

HoneyDragon · 08/10/2012 14:20

Don't have Macs. Only set up to itunes because of the ipods tbh.

I liked the S3 in the shop it was a lot lighter than my 3gs and did not seem much bigger.

Soupy, which do you use more for surfing/emailing though? The ipad or iphone?

Edma · 08/10/2012 14:22

Galaxy.
iphones are boring.

Jins · 08/10/2012 14:30

I've got the same dilemma. I don't like the feel of the iPhone 5. It's too light and the edge is sharp. I'm used to a 3GS with the lovely curved back that apple decided to get rid of a few generations ago.

I was almost going for a Note but I got to have a play with a Google Tablet this weekend. I'm not a great app user but some of the apps I use the most frequently just aren't available on the version of Android that runs on the nexus. Iplayer for example!

That decided me there and then. There's too many variations of android and too many issues with compatibility of the apps. It's like windows where you download a movie file and then you have to go hunting around for a codec. I don't need to be farting around with a phone it just has to work. I've never had an issue with iOS and already I've run into Android rage.

Edma · 08/10/2012 14:31

I have a Note and it's just perfect. I find iOS so frustrating as you can't adapt it to your needs.

Jins · 08/10/2012 14:33

I don't need to adapt iOS to my needs. It meets my needs just fine. You can always jailbreak but I've never needed to do that either

Aquelven · 08/10/2012 14:59

Samsung.

I have an iPhone & an iPad, as well as a Mac computer, been years since I used anything but.
But the new iOS 6 update is the worst thing I ever did & I'm done with Apple now.

lazydog · 08/10/2012 19:27

Another Samsung Galaxy s3 vote here.

niceguy2 · 08/10/2012 19:39

From a person whose had every iphone since the 3G up to the 4S, I have to say the SGS3. Clearly the superior phone in every way.

What are the improvements over the 4S? Erm...the screen's slightly bigger. So what? The SGS3 screen is even bigger than the iphone 5. It's slightly slimmer? It's not like the iphone 4 needed a diet really and you can't tell anyway.

Samsung are innovating, Apple are not anymore. The AMOLED screen on the SGS3 is simply stunning and as a photographer the photos viewed on the Samsung phones are far nicer than Apple's.

HoneyDragon · 08/10/2012 19:53

Interesting NiceGuy. The camera is very important to me too.

Also must of the data I schlep back and forth is images (printer). Is the S3 fairly tough? It will go in an Otterbox, but still like to know its not going to disintegrate on me.

But bigger isn't always better. It's all personal taste - for me the Samsung is just too big.
