Can someone talk to me about porn filters?

What are their limitations, as I am lead to believe that they cannot be 100%.
I suppose for people who really want to find their way around a filter they can do, but for young children on google who are doing a straight forward search, can the filters be 100%?

If not, what will get through?
My (Y4, 7yo) daughter was in class at school and her attention was brought to a website that a boy had found via google. It is a tumblr page and is proper hard core. No text in it though, so maybe that is the thing? The search term used was 'Tits'.

Filters cannot be 100%. There is no substitute for proper parental supervision.

That said if used sensibly they can be very effective. As they grow older though it can be harder.

One thing people don't often talk too much about is the effect of false positives. Take today. I was on my mobile phone trying to find out some information about a new camera bag and one of the sites I tried to go on was for some random reason blocked.

Back when I had filters installed my daughter was always asking me to unblock sites which were perfectly safe but for some unknown reason fell foul.

Also bear in mind that filters are useless against many other 'threats' such as cyberbullying, emails and facebook.

Personally I like this filter the best K9 Internet Filter. It's free and easy to set up & use. But like I said, in the end I got tired of the filter and instead now all computers are in my study. Hard to access porn when your dad is sat 3ft from you! And I'm also around to keep a loose eye on what they are saying to their friends via MSN/Facebook and once had to step in when my DD was being cyberbullied.
