Tablet/Facetime help

I have an iphone, dh has a blackberry ( work issue). We want to be able to video call as he works away in the week. What tablet should we get and do we need 2, one for home and one for him to take away ( crying at idea of spending £1k..)

DH says you should be able to use google plus on both the BB and your iphone which does video calling so you don't need any tablets - unless you want a slightly bigger picture!

No laptops?

Just that Skype can do video as well as voice, and with 12/14/17 inch screens, and costing say 250 to 500 depending on what deals are on...

Skype isn't the only option.

Would ask if this is for a short time use or longer term? Only asking as image quality etc come into question...

(son, DiL and their child went off to NY NY to live for a year, and my client and his wife used Skype to keep in touch each Friday after office hours - 1700 USA, 2200 UK... Skype worked fine but they did invest in higher quality webcam.)
