I had wifi activated too. Do i need to turn off Mobile Data at home to make it use wifi?

I also 'updated' 12 apps such as googlemaps/ google+/ Facebook and it loaded my backlog of emails including one by my mum to days ago of 45, yes 45 holiday photos that she sent

I am using Three and they have 'all you can eat' data so I have internet radio on 15+ hours a day without any worries. I pay 15 quid /month for a SIM only deal (600 minutes, 3000 texts, and internet on top), but that didn't include a phone.

With an up to date phone you'd probably be spending double on Three.

Only mention it, in case you have any chance of telling current network their data allowance is ridiculous and pulling out of the contract... but no expert in mobile contracts and it might not be that easy.

Sounds like the photos were the killer. On my other smartphones, with or without a PAYG SIM, I put them into airplane mode and then turn on wi-fi afterwards. HTH.

I have 100 mb which normally lasts all month. You have to be scrupulous about using wifi whenever possible and never watching any video or downloading stuff on your data.

As soon as my contract is up I am moving to giff gaff

Yes, I have mine set to not ever using cellular data to update apps and cellular data is switched off at home. These changes made a huge difference to usage.

Thanks for the replies! How do you set it to not use cellular data to be that specific in terms of not updating apps?

Haven't grot phone in front of me but you need to go through settings.

Found data usage and it only seems to total over 150MB, despite getting text from my provider with the 460MB figure.

Anyway, at least I found the data usage page at all! Have set all updates to come down by Wifi only.

Play Store accounted for the most (50MB).

I think you need to ensure that when indoors you are using the wifi, not 3G.

So basically if you are indoors, make sure you have the little wifi sign and there is no H, E or G showing.

Also, how did you check how much data you are using? On my Samsung it is under Settings -> Data Usage.

I'm just wondering if you were using a third party app which may be reporting all data, not just mobile.

Get a data manager app so you can see your usage.
