OK I'm a technophobe but I was thinking about getting one for ds, where can I buy them?

And I'm embarrassed to ask this but any idea how I can get him started......?

You never know maybe I'll use it myself Shock

Two links for you:

We have one it's really good. Ds2 has been using scratch on it to do simple programming.

You will also need a Micro USB power supply (provided with most mobile phones now so you may have one around), a USB keyboard and mouse and an HDMI cable to attach to a display. Hopefully you have either a TV or LCD display with an HDMI input as this is the easiest and cheapest.

You will also need an SD card, 2GB minimum but preferably larger and fast - 8 or 16GB Class 10 cards are pretty cheap on Amazon. You might have one lying around for digital camera use.

Download the latest Raspbian operating system from the Raspberry Pi site and go for it!

Oh, forget to mention: get a model B as you will want to connect it to the internet with a cable, you will also need a Cat 5 Patch Cable.

I am fairly sure it was the RS site I went to and following their "home user" link, saw most if not all those items listed as useful items for ones shopping basket. Not sure their price for the SD card (etc) was competitive, but they made it easy to buy the bits all in one place.

Of course, some of the items (such as a 1m HDMI cable) could already be in the house, or available at Poundland, and a powered multi port USB hub (providing power to the R. Pi as well as providing for multiple items [assuming it copes with a hub OK]), might be an easy way to have keyboard and mouse on your desk with the R. Pi safely tucked out of the way [of any pets, etc] half way to the TV.
