14 year old now using skype to talk to his mates all the time whilst playing other games on the laptop. being a complete technophobe how safe is skype is it really just like picking up the phone and speaking to people and can anyone find him on there cheers wish they made a book "paranoid parents guide to computers"

Well anyone can request he accept them as a friend, we've had 1 or 2 spam requests, you just block them .
But he s 14 so hopefully is aware of potential dangers,
Set strict and fair rules about behaviour, swearing, being silly or age apprpriate stuff etc as all typed conversations are stored, on your pc too, you could access this and check.
It is free, which is why it's popular , we use it as family overseas so works great for us, but only in public rooms not in bedrooms .
