i am due an upgrade and I've never had one before. I got my phone an htc desire with orange through mobiles.co.uk. If I get an upgrade do I go through orange or through mobiles.co.uk? Can I try and get a good deal with orange through any outlet phones4u, car phone warehouse etc? Are upgrade deals as good as those for new customers? I feel quite confused and that's before Ive even decided on a phone!

Thanks in advance

I have no idea but I'm going to avidly watch this space. I also have an HTC desire given to me by my parents. I hate it

Do you find it crashes on you at times? The Skype on it doesn't work so well ad there is no back camera option either. As much as I don't want to succumb to peer pressure I think it might be an iPhone for me, although the new Orange smart phone looks interesting, would nice to see If anyone knows what that is like

You could do worse than call Orange customer services and ask them what your options are. For example:

  1. what phones can they offer you, whether they'd do a particular / better phone at same price as you pay now

or, if you prefer

  1. whether you can get more minutes / texts / internet from them for the same price - or

  2. get the same allowances, but for less cash

Does no harm to know what you'd get from Orange, without the legwork to go into Phones4U, Carphone Warehouse, etc, or paying for premium rate calls to web firms (or start waiting, if you e-mail, to see if they will answer).

Thank you both for replying. My htc has been great. I finally chose it over the iPhone after people raved about it on here. It has just started occasionally shutting down and turning itself back on and getting very hot. I think It might be a battery issue. It's annoying. I'm sorry you don't like yours kingbeat23.
I too quite fancy the iPhone... I also like the new galaxy and the galaxy note... Thank you networkguy I shall give orange a call. I would like to give my htc to my mum if I can sort the battery out. @networkguy could you recommend somewhere to get a new battery? Reviews are mixed on amazon. Thank you.

I'd look at Amazon and Ebay, but in the first instance (and exactly what I'd do) a visit to a local "unlocking" shop in town to ask "any idea if there are issues with the HTC Desire about battery getting hot, and phone rebooting?" to see what they say (without committing yourself to any fees for "checking it" or selling you a new battery) would be worth an hour of your time, esp if battery is expensive.

If you know they've been trading a while, then if the price they'd charge for a replacement battery competes with what you've already seen on Amazon, they are certainly worth considering, as you have a physical place to visit rather than relying on e-mail and phone calls to the other end of the country, and if you get no satisfaction (in the event of a problem) you have more options for complaint - trading standards (over minimum "fit for purpose" requirement if nothing else), local press, chamber of trade... the local firm has plenty to lose if you feel "ripped off" - far more than some firm/person "trading" on Amazon or Ebay or Gumtree.
