Possible to stop files deleting?

If you select a number of files to delete on a PC, and press OK once the "are you sure" message comes up, is it then possible to press 'cancel' and stop the deletions provided you hit 'cancel' quickly enough?

Yes or you should find them in your recycle bin..

Thanks Nonio - it's not actually on my PC, it's something that someone else has done. They say that they pressed cancel and therefore didn't lose all the files - are you saying that's possible? (Sorry to be so hopeless at this type of thing)

Even if they did really delete the files there are tools such as Recuva which will undelete them.

Niceguy2 This probably sounds ridiculous - and thanks for letting me know that there are tools that will undelete files - but I'm trying to establish whether it's possible to press cancel while they're deleting, and stop the deletion (although some of them will have already been deleted) , or if it's not possible to stop it although you may be able to recover them later.

I don't want to give full details because don't want to be recognised but I'm trying to see if what someone has told me is true or if they're lying to me.

Yes, certainly possible to interrupt part way through.

Whether those files are still in the recycle bin (often they are), however, depends on a few factors.

(For example:

  1. how long ago the files were deleted,
  2. whether someone has "emptied" the recycle bin,
  3. whether the files were small enough to be put in the recycle bin.

Other factors might also affect the outcome. The above just came to mind.)

Thanks NetworkGuy - that confirms what I was told by the person concerned. Maybe I shouldn't have been so suspicious them!
