Samsung Galaxy S2 - HELP!

Have a shiny new phone - above and have one really big problem with it. When I get an email or a text, it talks to me and tells me .....I can't switch this off - even when the phone is on silent it still does it. It's driving me (and my colleagues) bonkers! The only way to silence it is to turn it off altogether...Any ideas anyone ?

Could you not go into settings and chosing notification ringtone choose 'silent' ?

ChickensHaveNoLips · 26/06/2012 14:01

Settings. Have you got it's speak function turned on? Say 'Hi Galaxy' to it and see what happens.

travellingtime · 26/06/2012 14:16

If i have got the speak function turned on, how do I turn it off?

It'll be in the settings bit.

ChickensHaveNoLips · 26/06/2012 14:21

Right, just had a play. I think you have your speech set to driving mode, so it reads out all notifications. Go in to settings, voice input and output, text to speech settings, and then uncheck driving mode.

thanks. but cant see anything like voice input under the settings menu...i am clearly too much of a technophobe to own a phone like this...

I'm sorry if this is really patronising, but...have you scrolled down? Grin It's 13 down on my list. So you have your home screen, then go to applications, then settings, then scroll down to the 13th voice input and output (I'm a phone numpty too, btw. I've just had it a while now and I love it).

travellingtime · 26/06/2012 14:35

when i go to applications and then look for settings ...ie touch left hand side of the middle button no 'settings' option comes up.

Is your settings button not on the first page of apps? A little cog icon?

travellingtime · 26/06/2012 14:38

I can go into it that way, yes but then I dont see anything about voice input and output...even if i scroll all the way down...

Ooh. I'm not sure what to suggest then. That's where mine is

MNP · 28/06/2012 21:27

When you are scrolling down to look TravellingTime you are looking in settings?

So they run

Wireless....
Call
Sound
Display
Power saving...
Location .....
Applications
Accounts .....
Motion
Privacy
Storage
Language ....Voice input .....
Accessability
Dock settings
Date and .....
About phone

??

Just spoken to DP who has Galaxy S2 (he uses Android version 4, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich - seriously, who names these things!?!) I told him your problem and will type what he says to me:

Go to settings...then 'language and output'....then 'text to speech output'....then uncheck 'driving mode'

Or

Holds your finger on the "home" button for about one second it will bring up a list of open applications. Swipe the application that is running that you want to close

Hope one of those methods works! I'm not bad with the "geeky stuff" but get lost when it comes to mobile phones!

Good luck
