Hi,

I have a birthday coming up and DH was thinking about treating me to something nice - the two things I had in mind were either an ipad or a camcorder. Then when discussing with my DH, he mentioned that you can take film on an ipad so might not even need a camcorder. Can anyone with an ipad give me any advice about this? I'd love to start filming our family esp on special occasions. What can a camcorder do that an ipad can't?

Any advice/comments would be gratefully received! TIA.

You can indeed "film" on an iPad BUT the camera isn't all that great. I have fantastic "footage" taken outdoors in bright sunlight, but stuff I've taken indoors with artificial light is a bit disappointing. It's also a bit unwieldly as a camera, fine for snaps and short videos, but not for anything really important.

Otoh, an iPad can do so much more than a camcorder, so you might get more use of an iPad than the camera.

Are you anywhere near an Apple store? You can play with them before buying.

Brilliant, thanks. Thats kind of what I thought, that it'd be ok for a wee bit of filming but not as the thing you use all the time. I have some friends who have ipads so must ask for a good look at it to help decide.

I would have to say the ipad. A camcorder you won't use all that much. And besides, nowadays most phones and even budget cameras will have video facilities.

On the other hand the ipad will be enjoyed on a daily basis.
