I have an iPhone which is synced (photos only) with my netbook (Windows XP).

I have a kindle which I have a load of free ebooks on which is synced with my laptop (Windows 7)

(With me so far?!)

I wanted to add some of my ebooks to my iPhone to read in iBooks app.

I connected my iPhone to my laptop. It shows up in iTunes, but doesn't let me manually drag and drop the book files, but will let me do music.

Can I do this? I really don't want to have stuff in two locations - and my netbook doesn't have enough memory.

TIA!

can you get the kindle app on your phone? it will then sync with everything else, so you will always be reading from the correct point.

I have the app, the issue is that the books were not purchased from Amazon - so they don't show up in the Kindle sadly.

Use calibre to convert the books from ePub to mobi then you can put them on your kindle. You may be able to use kindle to load books onto the iPhone, I haven't tried it.

Ah, I see. See if you can get the 'Stanza' app, if it's still around. You can read epubs with that (and it will act as a file manager in itunes so you can add and remove books)

I don't know how you'd get stuff into the ibooks app as I never use it, mainly because I hate the bookstore so have never bought anything from it. I already had stanza before ibooks came out, so I always use that for non-kindle books.

I have a vague feeling that if you use Calibre to covert to mobi, then drop the file into the kindle folder on your netbook, they might show up in the app. I know you can definitely use Calibre to convert and transfer to your phone - there's a really good help section on the Calibre website which explains it all.

Copy e books to the pc with iTunes on it. Plug your iPhone into the same pc and open iTunes.
Click on your iPhone in iTunes (usually about halfway down on the left) and then open the 'apps' tab along the top.
Scroll down to the very bottom and you will see 'file sharing' for the kindle app. Select the books from the folder you placed them in and the do a 'sync'
When done all your books will be in the kindle app on your phone
