My iPhone 4s Dilemma of the Day is: How the Hell do I get iTunes onto it?!?

notnowbernard · 04/04/2012 22:03

Have Googled, looked on forums etc

Can't get any basic, step-by-step instructions

I kind of need spoon-feeding with it, such is my embarassing lack of knowledge... don't know where to start

Do you already have an iTunes library on a laptop somewhere, and you want to copy the content to the iPhone? Or do you mean literally: which of the icons on my iPhone is the one for iTunes?

notnowbernard · 04/04/2012 22:11

Sorry, v unclear OP there Blush

I mean I have an iTunes library on the laptop that I want to copy to my iPhone

Plug your phone into the laptop and it should do it automatically!Smile

notnowbernard · 04/04/2012 22:14

I did try and plug it in but didn't know what to do next

No probs, notnowbernard. And Kaluki is right. Literally all you should have to do is plug the phone into the laptop with a USB cable and voila. This might be why it's difficult to find instructions online, actually!

PersonalClown · 04/04/2012 22:15

Plug phone in and open iTunes (if not done automatically)
Click onto iphone halfway down the left hand side of the screen where playlists etc are.

Click on the music tab in the middle screen, then choose either Sync enitre library or choose playlists.

tribpot · 04/04/2012 22:21

Right okay, sorry, our posts crossed.

So, you plugged it in. Was iTunes already open on your laptop? (Shouldn't matter, just interested to know). Did the laptop admit that the phone was connected to it? This could have been by announcing it had detected new hardware, or because you could see the phone in 'My Computer'?

Assuming the phone connected successfully to the laptop, it could be that you don't have anything set up to synchronise between the phone and iTunes - have a look at this article, particularly how to sync automatically or manually.

notnowbernard · 04/04/2012 22:28

Ok, plugged in. Laptop didn't admit anything

I opened iTunes but couldn't see where to click on the lefthand side of the screen (as PersonalClown advises)

Also, can't make your link work, Tribpot

Thanks all, I appreciate you taking the time to post Smile

Tried re-plugging it in

Pop-up 'Autoplay' comes up saying something about device options?

Try this link, bernard. However, it sounds like you have a more fundamental problem, which is that the laptop isn't recognising that the phone is plugged in.

Do you have more than one USB port? Have you tried them all?

tribpot · 04/04/2012 22:35

Okay - I think you can safely ignore the Autoplay options, the important thing is the laptop is now recognising that the phone has been connected. Is iTunes open?

notnowbernard · 04/04/2012 22:38

iTunes is open, yes

Okay, so is the iPhone showing in the middle of the left-hand pane? If not, what happens if you click on File --> Sync iPod?

notnowbernard · 04/04/2012 22:45

When i click on 'sync iPod' it doesn't do anything. Also, it's in faint type not bold?

Have you tried the good old 'turn it off and turn it back on again' trick? Here is how you turn an iPhone off and on - do it whilst it's connected and see whether that makes any difference. Are you on the latest version of iTunes? Is your iPhone still 'as new' or has it been jailbroken?

I must go to sleep now but keep posting!

Thanks again for all your help!

I gave up last night - DP is going to ask his techie mate to come and give a tutorial (DP is as crap as me tbh)
