How do you store your digital photos?

Mine are all over the place- on my laptop, phone, old pc etc etc- I want to collate them, is putting them on disk secure enough? Should I buy an external hard drive?

I put all my photos and videos in one place ie PC's internal hard disk filed by Year & Month. Every now and then I copy over the latest folders onto the same Read/Write DVD. At the end of a year I burn that year's photos onto a dvd and leave it at my mum's, just in case my house burns down.

Alternately there are photo printing websites that will offer up about 5gb of space for free. Not much use to me since I have about 30gb.

Got two Western Digital My Books - one is a back up to the other but my dh is analinterested in photography.

Mine are all on my laptop and at the end of each year I pick the favourites during that year and make a photobook at a company like Photobox, with the year on the front cover, then a succession of photos thorughout the year.

God do I sound a bit anal!

They're on my laptop, but they're also backed up onto an external hard-drive - unfortunately I'm not that organised and am often behind in backing them up, which was horrible when my hard drive imploded last month. Luckily that same disorganisation means that I haven't deleted a lot of them off the camera anyway, so we only lost a few

Big family events usually end up on Facebook - it's the main reason I'm on there, to share photos with family - so they'll survive everything.

my laptop and still on my phone if taken there, and since i got my new galaxy s2, the camera never gets taken out, cox the phone is so good. a lot of pictures are on fb and should survive everything but the apocalypse

Oh thank you all...hmm so many different ideas! Love the annual photo book one, my BIL does this and they are lovely to look back on. We take far too many pics is the problem- maybe a book every quarter would be more realistic (but costly!!)
I read a thread on here saying not to trust online storage, plus the upload time would surely be horrific? (would help if I didn't have about nine gazillion pics to keep safe I suppose)
