Hi
ds2 has an alphasmart to use at school (has asperger's/dyspraxia) but it's quite heavy and he can only view 4 lines of text at a time (looks like a giant old-fashioned pager) so it's difficult for him to visualise the page. It's also refusing to talk to our printer so he has to print stuff off at school and given that he has difficulties with organisation it's yet another thing for him to try to remember (and invariably forget).
At parents' evening, almost all his teachers begged me to encourage him to type rather than write - writing is very slow and painful and he gets frustrated as he can't write fast enough to keep up with his thoughts. However he can touch type perfectly.
I was thinking he'd find a 'proper' computer easier to use than the alphasmart but given that it's going to be kicking around in his schoolbag all day (no lockers) it needs to be relatively light, relatively sturdy and if it does get trashed not cause my bank manager to have a heart attack.
So would a netbook be the way to go? and if so, any recommendations please? We'll have to fund it as the school only provides alphasmarts.
